Workshop Details

Choose from 13 engaging sessions exploring a wide variety of STEM topics—including civil engineering, water and wastewater, aerodynamics, the carbon cycle, and project management, to name just a few. Workshops range from one-hour sessions to full-day STEM experiences, offering flexibility to suit your timetable and learning objectives. Detailed information for each session—including workshop duration, key learning outcomes, risk assessments, and pricing—is available on request.

Workshop Format

All sessions follow a consistent structure, starting with a short, engaging introduction to key concepts, followed by interactive games, hands-on activities, and a themed craft session. Whatever children create during the craft session is theirs to take home. Your organisation is asked to provide basic resources such as pens, pencils, scissors, and glue. All other resources and specialist equipment are provided by us.

Feedback and Improvement

Your feedback is genuinely valued and plays a key role in helping us continually improve these workshops. As a result, some content or activities may evolve over time. However, the core teaching points and learning outcomes for each session will always remain consistent.

Bespoke Workshops

Bespoke workshops can be developed to suit the specific needs of your organisation. This includes an initial consultation, custom session design, sourcing of any specialist materials, and full delivery. Once delivered, these tailored workshops become part of the wider programme and can be booked again in future.

Workshop Development

Every workshop has been trialled in real classrooms, with excellent feedback from teachers. All sessions encompass both standard teaching practices alongside industry-inspired activities, making them well-rounded, engaging, and meaningful.

Programme Details

Early Years Foundation Stage

We have two workshops in the progrmme that are specifically designed for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), closely aligned with the government’s Development Matters guidance. These sessions use age-appropriate, play-based activities to support early learning across key areas of development.

Year 1 +

Key Stage 1 and 2 sessions cover a wide range of STEM topics, delivered with the appropriate level of detail which is tailored to each age group. All workshops are aligned with the National Curriculum and integrate standard engineering approaches, real-world problem solving, and industry-inspired practices.

Year 6 and Advanced Learners

For Year 6 and beyond, workshops are designed to challenge by exploring the underlying theories behind key STEM concepts in greater depth. Sessions require children to think critically and make decisions based on factors such as cost, quality, time, and sustainability- fostering a more mature, problem-solving mindset.

Events

Most workshops can be adapted for events beyond the classroom. Whether you’re planning a full STEM day, a science fair, or a careers event, our flexible, hands-on activities are designed to engage and inspire. Have something specific in mind? Testimonials

“Alyx delivered a terrific session to 2nd Maryport Squirrel Scouts about civil engineering. It was hands-on and pitched perfectly for 4-6 year olds. We even had real actions to pass onto the building owners following the survey that the children carried out! We would highly recommend Alyx at Solway STEM Academy.”

Jenny Metson, Scout Leader

“The workshop was AWESOME! I loved the crafts and my favourite part was the video challenge game at the end!

Theo, aged 6

“I really enjoyed our STEM session! It was so interesting learning about civil engineers and how they make designs for the builders to build. We even got to make our own structures too!”

Annie, Aged 9
